Flower Production in Sandustry

Quick answer

Flower growth is zero-sum: one Wet Seed ultimately becomes exactly one Flower. A seedling can consume Wet Seeds it grows through and keep trying to sprout one Flower for each, which looks like infinite growth without creating free Flowers.

How does Flower production work?

Any farm problem starts in one of three systems: washing, growing, or harvesting.

Seed prep

Seed + Water becomes Wet Seed. Control the wash so Wet Seeds leave instead of stacking in the pool.

Grow control

Meter Wet Seeds into a closed Planter chamber. Each consumed Wet Seed is queued to become exactly one Flower.

Harvest

Destroy Flower heads for 1 Gold and 4 Amethelis, then separate the two outputs.

How to make Wet Seeds

A Seed becomes a Wet Seed when it contacts Water. Wet Seeds have the same density as Water, so they do not simply sink out of a pool the way heavier materials do.

Easy to copy. Throughput is not the highest. Official guides recommend this style of wash.

Community-tested pattern

Moving / shallow-water washer

Keep Water moving and avoid a deep stagnant pool. Some farms also split the wash across parallel lanes, or use a Portal or Launcher to keep material moving. This is not a single correct mechanism.

Washer not working?

Likely cause

Too much material is entering one wetting zone.

How to stop Flowers spreading

Build the Flower farm as a closed grow chamber, not as an open Planter field. Plants do not pass through building structures, so a ceiling and walls limit the grow zone.

Gold and Amethelis can pass down through Planter Boxes. Other solids do not. Keep plants above the Planters and drop products into the output chamber below.

Flowers around Belts or Walls usually mean the grow zone still has an opening, or Wet Seeds already left the intended planting area.

Why do Flowers keep growing after Seeds are turned off?

They are not creating free Flowers. A growing seedling may already have consumed additional Wet Seeds and will keep trying to create one Flower for each consumed seed. The system remains zero-sum: one Wet Seed ultimately corresponds to one Flower.

How to stop a Flower farm completely

Use this order. Turning the belt off is only step 1.

  1. 01

    Stop dry Seed input

  2. 02

Empty the washer — remove or process remaining Wet Seeds

  3. 03

    Clear the distribution line

  4. 04

Shoot or dig problematic seedlings to try to recover them as Wet Seeds

  5. 05

Check the chamber for trapped Wet Seeds or surviving growth

  6. 06

Let seedlings stuck between buildings give up and return to Wet Seeds, then clear them

How to harvest Flowers

A Flower can be destroyed by digging, shooting, explosives or Fire. Because vines are flammable, Fire is an effective way to clear a large chamber. Each Flower head drops 1 Gold and 4 Amethelis.

How to automate Flower harvesting

Manual Fire is the reliable starting method. Automatic ignition is a community-tested concept, not a guaranteed maintenance-free setup.

Manual

Automatic concept

Controlled Lava embers / Fire over a closed chamber. Still watch for Gold clogs, petal piles and uneven ignition.

Advanced / community-tested layout

Potential controlled igniter

Pyro Dispenser can fire periodic bursts after it has Thermal Buffer Heat. It is not marked recommended for Flower chambers until that layout is verified in the current game.

How to separate Gold and Amethelis

Gold is heavy and wants a Collector. Amethelis is a light Wisp and drifts as it falls, so it needs a wider capture area before drying.

Amethelis → wide capture → drying → Dry Amethelis → Florin

The milestone tracks Flowers grown. A farm can continue advancing after new input stops while already-consumed Wet Seeds finish their one-to-one Flower conversions.

Common Flower questions

How do you grow Flowers in Sandustry?+

Wash Seeds into Wet Seeds, meter them into a contained Planter chamber, then harvest Flower heads for Gold and Amethelis.

How do you make Wet Seeds without clogging?+

Wet Seeds share Water density, so give them a clear exit. Start with a Water pool and Clearing Frames; for higher volume keep Water moving and add parallel wash lanes before overfilling one washer.

Why are Flowers spreading through my factory?+

The grow chamber is open, or Wet Seeds left the planting area. Enclose the sides and ceiling, stop new Seed, and clear escaped Wet Seeds before restarting with a thinner feed.

Why do Flowers keep growing after I turn off Seed input?+

A growing seedling may already have consumed more Wet Seeds and keeps trying to make one Flower for each. Shoot or dig a problematic seedling to try to recover it as Wet Seeds.

Can Flower harvesting be automated?+

Yes as a community-tested concept using controlled Fire or embers over a closed chamber. It is not guaranteed maintenance-free. Gold clogs, petal piles and uneven ignition still happen.

Do I need to harvest 4,000 Flowers for Tier 3?+

No — the Tier 3 objective is to grow 4,000 Flowers, not necessarily to harvest 4,000 of them.
